Today while working at our cabin, I noticed the cover/cap
of the gas lamp by the street was missing. ;-( I looked down the
slope at all the debris, rocks, dead branches, loose soil and said,
"Angels I sure wish you would show me that cap. It could be anywhere.
Perhaps some kids might have even knocked it off or something".
Then I went back to painting and cleaning.
Near sunset I was "nudged" to check the area
under the house - I don't mean the lower storage area, I mean the little tiny
door on the West side which is 3 levels below the Main Level. We had not
opened that door in maybe 10 years. It's so difficult to access the
door-- it's a matter of controlled slippage down the mountain. So off I
went with the padlock key, flashlight, heavy gloves, and prayers that I would
not end up at the bottom of the canyon.
As I neared the doorway, one foot started slipping and so
I reached out for a tree root to hang on to. Instead, my hand landed on
something black and hard under the loose dirt which had cascaded from the upper
levels. It was the cap for the Gas Lamp!!! COINcidence?
Thanks
Angels!
P.S. The padlock on the door was so weather worn,
I could not open it. Doc put a can of lubricant in a bucket, attached two
dog leashes in series to the bucket, stood on the lower deck, then gently
guided the cargo over the railing and down to me. Unfortunately the
lubricant did not work on the lock. Next visit - Bolt cutters!
Lesson: Ask for help in even the seemingly
unimportant issues. It makes the day go
better.
